Here is a curated list of Top 3 books for JavaScript Developers that should you from newbie to work as a Freelance JavaScript web developer.

1. Beginning JavaScript

For something a little easier to dive in to check out Beginning JavaScript by Paul Wilton and Jeremy McPeak.

This book clocks in at just under 800 pages, and it’s a massive guide to the JS ecosystem from the perspective of a complete novice. The lessons are easy to follow regardless of your skillset, and they use practical code snippets to keep you engaged. It takes around 8 hours a week to complete the book and written in straightforward language.

Eloquent JavaScript, 3rd Edition

Marijn Haverbekedives wrote eloquent JavaScript. This book teaches how to write beautiful, effective code.

You start by learning the basic structure of the JavaScript language and control structures, functions, and data structures. After that, you‘ll learn about error handling and bug fixing, modularity, and asynchronous programming, and lastly, you will learn how JavaScript is used to program them.

This JavaScript book covers topics like understanding the essential elements of programming, including syntax, control, and data, basic web applications, use the DOM effectively, etc.

It will take approximately 30 hours to finish the book. For me it took 50 hours since I had other courses while I was reading this book :-)

If you want to combine this book with a comprehensive course, I suggest you pick Modern JavaScript From The Beginning a hands-on, project-based course by Brad Traversy.

3. Speaking JavaScript: An In-Depth Guide for Programmers

Speaking JavaScript is a book written by Axel Rauschmayer that helps you approach the language with four standalone sections. This JavaScript guide teaches you just enough of the language to help you be productive right away.

That’s not all experienced JavaScript programmers will find a complete and easy-to-read reference that covers each language feature in-depth.

With this book, you will learn Object-oriented programming using JavaScript. The book also includes tips, tools, and libraries: Survey existing style guides, best practices, etc.
